A Message from AFSC regarding aid to Haiti
Our neighbors in beleaguered Haiti are facing untold suffering. Yesterday’s 7.0 earthquake devastated homes, schools, hospitals, government buildings, and an already inadequate infrastructure. Estimates of those killed, wounded, or left homeless by the earthquake are staggering. Early estimates are that more than 3 million people have been affected.
I want to be sure that you know that the American Friends Service Committee is responding to the crisis. If you get questions about how people can support AFSC’s response to the Haiti earthquake, please refer people to AFSC’s web site, www.afsc.org, or our toll-free number (1-888-588-2372).
For Friends close to High Point, North Carolina, AFSC’s material assistance program is accepting hygiene kits. For more information, please contact Ann Lennon at firstname.lastname@example.org or 336-885-6921.
Right now, AFSC staff are trying to get in touch with our partners in Haiti to assess how we can best be of service. AFSC’s plans will unfold as we gain more information and hear from partners in Haiti, but we expect to respond with immediate humanitarian assistance through partner organizations, and then commit our resources to longer term reconstruction, recovery and healing, as resources permit.
If you would like to continue to receive updates about AFSC’s response to Haiti, email us at email@example.com or subscribe online at www.afsc.org. I’ll be sure to keep you informed as the situation progresses.
With warm greetings and New Year best wishes,
Mary Ellen McNish
General Secretary, AFSC
