What is it that we are imaging, and working toward, in our future?

Friends - here is an essay prepared by Jay O'Brien that the Wednesday night worship group discussed a few weeks ago:

Our annual onsite retreat, "Hearing that of God in one another,"  with Marianne Lockard is coming weekend after next.  It will be an opportunity to practice the Quaker skill of listening and actually 'hearing' that of God in one another, as well as spending time getting to know each other better.  We often talk of 'listening to that of God' in each other.  But do we really hear?  Everyone who comes will learn something new about Quakers, have a spiritual growth opportunity, and have fun being with friends.

You can still register by phone the last week, but it really helps us to have actual numbers of people, for planning.  If you are part of planning (committee members, various clerks, etc), and think we have counted you already, we havent, please give your name to Claude, as we dont assume that helping out means you are coming for sure.  I myself registered today to be sure I was counted.

If you are planning to come, please return the attached registration or send your information and at least your name by email to Claude Rubinson at <cjr@grundrisse.org>,  or call him at 520-370-8886.

We would appreciate very much to have an accurate estimate of the number of attendees to our onsite retreat by this Sunday.

What part do dreams play in our belief in being shown the natural path? Are they part of our communication with the Inner Light?

We've been talking about the afterlife. Jay O'Brien has been doing some reading and or writing about reincarnation. Hopefully, Jay will be there to present a structure for our discussion. If not, we can talk about it anyway, perhaps in terms of what affect the ties that bind may have on spirits that want to be reincarnated.

On Wed. Swpt. 26 we just talked together about a variety of things, and enjoyed each other's company. Chris Drexler was still home and explained a little more about who Wasui is, and he will be going back to Nigeria on Saturday, so we talked about things he wanted to talk about. We will have the discussion that was planned for tonight next Wednesday.
Wednesday Sept. 19,  Wasui Odufisan talked about the importance of spirits not being tied to the material earth. It prevents them from flying to their rightful place in the spiritual world, and fulfilling their purpose of becoming That of God. In this context he talked about not loving your car too much, not grasping at your ambitions too much, not even loving one another in a possessive way. He included in this that others can hold on to a spirit too tightly - need someone too much - that might prevent a spirit from separating and continuing its journey. We will follow up with discussion of this concept on Wed. Oct 3.

Friends, Marianne Lockard, our retreat facilitator for 2012, has asked that we distribute this survey to all concerned with the life of Live Oak Friend's Meeting, regardless of your personal interest in the Retreat (though we do hope you all want to join in).  This will help us plan for the retreat and follow up issues that the retreat may not be able to address, but that the meeting needs to address.  We very much want your input.  There are printed copies in the Mott room or you can print the attachment here.  You can also return your comments electronically to me at friendwill@aol.com, or drop it off at the meeting house near the door in the front (Mott) room. For the sake of Marianne's review, please do the survey and return it by September 30th.
Thanks, Bill Mize Clerk, Worship and  Ministry
