The Meeting passed a Minute supporting the Charter of Compassion last year. We will continue to discuss this project and how we feel about verbal violence.
Attached are the revelent documents: a description of the project, the Charter of Compassion, and an essay  of concerns a Friend expressed when we passed it. Click on this link to see the documents provided for reading to prepare for the discussion.

8:00-8:45 p.m. Meeting for Worship

Posted on 1/1/2012 by Bette Drexler

All Friends are welcome to this Meeting for Worship and Candle Lighting.
We hope it will be a meaningful experience.
For those Friends who would have missed Candle Lighting, the Wed. night worship group decided to provide the  opportunity for the Live Oak community during their weekly worship time. The doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and Friends will set up the usual foil covered table and center candle. At 7:30 p.m. worship will begin. As we wait expectantly in the silence with dimmed lights,  each attender  is invited to offer vocal ministry and light a candle to place on the table with those of other members of the community. Vocal or silent ministry is welcome as each attender lights his or her candle from that of another Friend, increasing the Light.
The combined light of all the different candles will shine brightly, symbolizing the strength and unity of The Light within all humankind, and emphasizing the importance of the letting The Light shine forth.
This has been a holiday tradition at Live Oak Friends Meeting since Dec. 1983. See the reprint of the Friends Journal article written by Yvonne Boeger giving the history of the tradition in the Documents section of the web page.
There will be extra candles available for those who have not brought their own.

We continue our sharing about ways in which we deal with our anger. This topic has held our interest [and our angst] for quite some time. Come join us and share your story - either as catharsis, or as inspiritation to fellow attenders.

Here are links to two previous posts on how to post content on the website:

Remember, there is a lot of information available on the website. If you are looking for something, a good way to look is to do a search - type a keyword into the search box at the top right of the page, and see if what you are looking for is in the results. For example, if you want Joan's sandwich recipe, type "recipe" in the search box, and you will find the recipe!
