We held a grand opening celebration for our Little Free Library on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Polly Clark cut the ribbon.

The library was built with mostly scrap lumber by adults and kids from Live Oak Friends Meeting. The library is pretty big (24″x24″) and has two shelves that store a large number of books.

Patrick Brooks facilitated the construction, Pen Morrison did the lettering and the Property Committee helped with mounting it on the fence.

Originally it was decorated with laser die-cut peace signs of various sizes that the kids painted but these eventually all fell off or deteriorated. The roof has had to be replaced as have the door hinges and magnetic latches.

The original library was later joined by a kids LFL on September 25, 2016.

The Little Free Library movement began in Wisconsin in 2009 when one person built a miniature one room school and filled it with free books in his front yard as a tribute to his mother who loved to read. It has since grown into a worldwide success story, providing access to free reading material in more than 200,000 registered Little Free Libraries in 128 countries worldwide.
