We are a small, welcoming community of The Religious Society of Friends, commonly called Quakers or simply Friends. Our interactions with our neighbors (each other and the world at large) are grounded in and guided by the belief that there is “that of God” in everyone and by the Quaker testimonies;
Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.
About SQWG
Spring Quakers Worship Group started meeting on February 2nd, 2020 (palindrome date 02/02/2020) and was formed under the care of Live Oak Friends Meeting (LOFM), Houston. The acorn is a symbol of being under the care of Live Oak, the meeting is co-convened by Richard Corl and Kathi Gatlin.
Located in the North Houston metro area, it may be more convenient to attend a meeting in Spring if you live on the north side of Houston and beyond.
Spring Quakers and LOFM have a close supportive relationship and there is a close tie between the two meetings. Members and attenders of both meetings are welcome to attend either one and participate in the life of the meeting that works best for them.
The Spring Interfaith Council, NAM and The Hope Center are part of some of the attenders’ connection to the community in Spring.
Note: New or transferred membership, if desired, would be obtained through LOFM as a Monthly Meeting.
“In loving memory”, Rodney Mayfield, April 16th, 1982 – October 6th, 2023. Rodney was co-convener of Spring Quakers and member of LOFM. Life well Lived!
Worship

We meet together in an unprogrammed and expectant Meeting for Worship. Meeting for worship is a time when we come together to seek divine leadings and to nurture our faith community. It is a time to become still, quieting the restlessness of the mind and the tensions of the body. In this way we seek to open ourselves to receive divine guidance, to experience the presence of that which is holy, and to be informed or guided by it.
When Friends gather together for quiet worship, we are supporting one another in listening to God. We are tuning in together to the words God has for each of us and for all of us. Sometimes, a Friend feels led to share vocal ministry with those gathered. Before speaking a message aloud, Friends try to discern whether the message is for self or whether God is leading them to share it with the group.
It is different from meditation in that as we sit together, one welcomes a thought or the vocal ministry of another and tries to determine what it might mean for us in our own life.
Midweek Worship
Worship, Worship Sharing and study are available with interest. Sharing an evening during the week for additional worship and study is a great way to deepen Quaker practice.
We have used this additional get-together for Quaker 101, study of short essays and other desired topics. This can be done in-person at CCCC or online via Zoom.
Contact the co-convenors to see if these mid-week meetings are or will be happening. We try to add events to the LOFM Newsletter as well. If you are interested in Quaker 101, please let us know and we will convene a new class.
